A-Life Medical's Management Team

A-Life Medical’s management team is comprised of seasoned executives whose combined career experience in the healthcare sector spans more than 90 years.  A-Life’s senior management members also have extensive experience and a proven track record in growing healthcare entities.  Their collective expertise lies within finance, business development, product management, computer engineering, customer satisfaction, computational linguistics and information technology.

Management

  • Tom Bang, President and CEO

    Tom BangTom Bang serves as president and chief executive officer at A-Life, overseeing all A-Life Hospital activities. 

    His expertise lies in commercializing early-stage technology for significant market growth.  Bang brings a wealth of general management, marketing, sales, and business development experience from both his U.S. and international roles to A-Life Hospital.  Throughout his 30-year career, Bang held various executive level positions in leading healthcare companies, including those with MediTROL Automation Systems (Owen Healthcare); Pyxis Corporation (Cardinal Health);  Baxter International and American Hospital Supply Corporation.

    More specifically, Bang led the successful turnaround of MediTROL Automation Services, acquired by Cardinal Health in 1997 as part of a larger acquisition.  At Pyxis, he helped grow revenues worldwide from $200 to $680 million while serving in several key executive roles.  During his tenure there, he led the development and commercialization of several new technologies.  Under his leadership, Pyxis generated new product revenues in excess of $270 million in part due to technology development and advancements along with acquisition investments of approximately $35 million. 

    Bang holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Ohio State University. 

  • Jaye Connolly, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer

    Jaye ConnollyJaye Connolly joined A-Life Medical as chief financial officer in February 2005.  In 2009, Connolly was promoted to the additional post of chief operating officer.  In this capacity, Connolly manages all activities of A-Life Medical. 

    Connolly possesses extensive finance and acquisition experience having served in key roles at six publicly traded corporations as well as at start-up entities.  Throughout this time she also garnered significant IPO experience.  During her career, she led 18 accretive acquisitions adding more than $1.0 billion to revenue.  For more than 25 years, Connolly demonstrated leadership across a variety of roles spanning the healthcare sector including those in diagnostic imaging, clinical laboratory, physician practice management and hospital services.  Before joining A-Life Medical, Connolly served as vice president of business development/mergers and acquisitions at InSight Health Corp. and director of internal audit at Laboratory Corp. of America, where she successfully implemented the corporate wide compliance, audit and ethics program.    

    In 2009, she was named CFO of the Year in the private company category by the San Diego Business Journal. 

    Connolly holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Texas Tech University. 

  • Mark Morsch, Vice President, NLP & Software Engineering

    Mark MorschMark L. Morsch joined A-Life Medical in 1996 and serves as vice president of NLP and software engineering.  In this position, Morsch is responsible for directing the company’s linguists and overseeing its software engineers in the continuing advancement of A-Life Medical’s state-of-the-art Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications. He has published several papers on NLP clinical abstraction, text mining and computer-assisted coding. 

    Prior to joining A-Life Medical, Morsch served on the technology staff of the Raytheon/Pennsylvania State University Center for Intelligent Information Processing. 

    He holds both Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science degrees in electrical engineering (with honors) from Clarkson University. 

  • David Byrd, Vice President, Business Development

    David ByrdDavid Byrd brings more than 17 years of healthcare-related and business development experience to A-Life Medical. 

    Previously, Byrd spent 18 months as senior vice president of sales and marketing at Language & Computing (L&C) Inc., a European-based Natural Language Understanding company.  Prior, he had served as vice president of sales and marketing at A-Life Medical for seven years, where he established the company’s sales, marketing, strategic partnerships, product management and sales support infrastructures and processes.  Byrd originally joined A-Life after serving in various management positions for Computer Sciences Corporation and Reynolds and Reynolds.  He returned to A-Life to serve as vice president, business development in 2009.

    Byrd holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from Rocky Mountain College.

  • Spencer Wood, Vice President, Client Services

    Spencer WoodSpencer K. Wood joined A-Life Medical in 2007 as director of client services with 20 years of experience in software services, support and development. In 2010, Wood was promoted to vice president of client services and is responsible for professional services, project management & implementations, quality assurance, software implementation, technical support and coding services.

    Prior to joining A-Life Medical Wood held a number of management positions with Epicor Software Corporation, a global provider of software solutions, and was most recently senior director of professional services responsible for technical and programming services.

    A graduate of the University of Hawaii, Wood received his Masters of Science in Software Engineering from National University.
